Phoenix Horizon's basketball team, hoping other programs in the state do the same, jumped in to help out Houston area flood victims in response to a tweet from University of Houston men's coach Kelvin Sampson.

Horizon sent a box of T-shirts after Sampson sent out a tweet asking for basketball programs to donate shirts and shoes:

"It's an easy decision to help," Lucas said. "In time of need, we need to help each other. When my neighbor hurts, I hurt. When other communities hurt, we all collectively should hurt and do all we can to help each other in trying times.

"The least we can do is donate clothing, etc., to help those needing it. It was an excellent ideal by coach Kelvin Sampson to have other athletic programs donate athletic clothing to Houston. It truly is showing how strong not only the athletic community is but just how strong our country is in times of need."
